CASE STUDY: Construction company minimises bullying claims, stress claim risks, learns how the workers' compensation scheme applies to employees and subcontractors

Marlene is the CEO of a large design and construction company. The business engages direct employees, main contractors and a variety of subcontractors. The business has recently experienced a spate of stress claims and Marlene is unsure how best to manage these. Marlene calls CCI for help.

Rachael, a Senior Safety and Risk Consultant, provides Marlene and her management team with a
briefing about minimising the likelihood of bullying claims, stress claims and other adverse outcomes. Rachael also advises how to manage people with stress claims for best outcomes using good injury management practices.

As part of the briefing Rachael also discusses the workers’ compensation scheme and how employees, subcontractors and others at the workplace are relevant to the organisation’s policy and premiums.
Rachael supports Marlene with weekly visits for the next 3 months to roll out new procedures, review and manage claims, train groups of supervisors, contractors and subcontractors, and identify the OSH priorities for the organisation for the next 12 months. When the OSH Manager takes a 3 month holiday overseas, Rachael provides further on-site support 2 days a week and coaches the OSH officer to keep the workload ticking over.
