Social responsibility

CCI, as member of the Western Australian community, believes that it is important that we operate in a social, ethical, and environmentally responsible manner. We strive to promote positive change through our own actions. We encourage responsible and equitable business and employment practices, contribute to educational and social programs and support environmentally sustainable business operations.


Policy and advocacy

CCI exists to service our members and the broader business community as the State’s leading representative for commerce and industry, dedicated to the pursuit of a competitive and responsible free-enterprise economy for the benefit of all individuals in our society. CCI does this through its policy and advocacy teams that are focussed on core business issues such as industrial relations, occupational health and safety and workers compensation, economics, business policy, health and community, and education and training. CCI has one of the largest policy and advocacy teams outside of Government, which enables CCI to be responsive to issues that emerge (such as Government announcements, inquiries and reviews) and to be proactive in setting the policy agenda, on behalf of the broader community.


Mental Health

Heads Up is a joint initiative from beyondblue and the Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance (MHWA). It aims to encourage Australian businesses to invest in mentally healthy workplaces and has the full support and endorsement of CCI.

Education Development Fund 

CCI believes that the business community have a strong role to play in working with the education sector. Through CCI’s voluntary Education Development Fund, to which our members make annual contributions, CCI is able to deliver a range of initiatives aimed at developing the workforce of the future. This includes the sponsorship of student excellence awards, student guides, student development events, parent career advice workshops and an online student portal.

CCI also offers numerous work placements, work experience opportunities and work exposure programs throughout the year so that we are contributing to building employability skills in the youth of today. Many of our professional staff volunteer time to mentor university students through their courses, provide guest lectures to university and VET students and give their time to practice interview skills and workplace etiquette with high school students.

Charity fundraising

Every year, CCI employees select a member charity to be the annual recipient of substantial fundraising efforts across the organisation. Casual dress Fridays are dedicated to raising funds for our Charity of the Year. Staff are also offered the opportunity to make fortnightly contributions through the payroll system. In addition CCI runs a Charity Golf Day in which the funds raised from the event are provided to the Charity of the Year. The selected Charity of Year’s purpose and aim is promoted to our staff to increase recognition and support for the organisation.

CCI supports its employees to organise and partake in a range of national fundraising activities and events throughout the year including bake sales, awareness raising campaigns and fun runs.      


Diversity

CCI believes that, through embracing diversity in our employees, members and the business community, we are helping to build an inclusive society that values every individual’s contribution. We understand that diversity takes many forms, including: gender, age, ethnicity, cultural and religious beliefs work and personal experience, physical and mental ability and sexuality. Embracing diversity as part of an inclusive workplace helps us to make better decisions and create a more productive environment. By respecting each other and drawing on our different talents, we are encouraged to perform to our full potential for a shared benefit.

CCI is part of the national Reconciliation Action Plan program. CCI has consulted with its staff, business associates, Aboriginal Elder groups and other interested parties with a view to working together to build respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and people through all levels of our organisation. We will, through our business strengths, contribute to improving equality of opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We believe CCI can make a difference and help close the gap by working with Aboriginal communities and local employers by promoting meaningful training and employment opportunities and business sustainability for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We will deliver realistic, meaningful and achievable outcomes. CCI will continue to review this plan and our performance regularly to ensure our ambitions are relevant and the outcomes are achieved.
