What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is an employment-based training program that combines practical experience at work with off-the-job training with a registered training organisation. During an apprenticeship you will gain valuable work experience and develop the skills required for a particular trade. An apprenticeship is a structured programme and usually takes between 36 - 48 months to complete.
What is a traineeship?
A traineeship is a training agreement between you and your employer that combines practical work experience with on-site training by your employer. During a traineeship you will gain the basic knowledge and skills required in a particular industry or trade. A traineeship usually takes between 9 - 48 months to complete.
Apprenticeships and traineeships are available to Australian residents of working age. On successful completion you are issued with a nationally recognised qualification. Whether you are a school-leaver, re-entering the workforce or simply looking to try something new, an apprenticeship or traineeship could be your next step towards an exciting and rewarding career.
An apprentice or trainee can add value to your business
There are many benefits in having apprentices or trainees as part of your business. In addition to ensuring you have well-trained, highly skilled employees that meet your requirements, many businesses include apprentices and trainees in their overall workforce development strategy to support succession planning and skills development.
Apprenticeships and traineeships allow you to invest in the future of your business by assessing your skills gaps and acquiring the specialist skills needed to keep you at the forefront of new technologies and techniques, resulting in a more effective, productive and competitive organisation.
