Perth businesses are invited to put their minds to the test and duke it out with the rest of the business community in a series of quiz nights for the title of Perth’s Brainiest Business.
Businesses are encouraged to hold their own quiz night, with Telethon suppling all the questions and marketing materials to use around your workplace to generate interest in the night.
Proceeds from the nights will go to Telethon.
The team with the highest score from your quiz night gets to compete in the grand final, to be held in October.
The project is the brainchild of KPMG partner Matt Popham and father of the 2011 Little Telethon Star Ben Popham, now 17.
Ben has cerebral palsy but that hasn’t stopped him achieving great things.
He swam at the Rio Paralympics last year and last month came fourth in the open category against much older swimmers at the Australian National Championships, where he swam a personal best.
Matt says fundraising is a chance to give back to others who are less fortunate. He is certainly a man of his word and it’s not his first time on the fundraising scene.
In 2013 Matt, alongside a group of other fundraising fanatics, ran continuously for 24 hours in a cool room simulating Antarctic temperatures.
This event alone raised $90 000 for Telethon, with Matt’s team following it up by running a marathon to the South Pole.
Experiencing true Antarctic conditions this time – complete with treacherous icy terrain at 700-metre altitude – Matt conquered the challenge and brought home another massive contribution to Telethon.
He says Perth’s Brainiest Business is a way for the business community to get more involved for the important cause.
“Many people I meet say how much they love Telethon and wish there could be a way to get more involved,” he says.
“The Perth's Brainiest Business quiz was therefore born from an idea of getting as many businesses and people as possible involved in raising money for a great cause and help celebrate the 50th anniversary of Telethon.
“It is a great way for businesses to come together with all staff to have some fun and feel good about being part of this year's special Telethon with very minimal effort given we do all the hard work for them.”
