Gallagher is on a tour of Chambers of Commerce in all states and territories and will be in Perth for morning tea at CCI on May 3.
She’s already been to South Australia, Victoria and NSW with WA, QLD next on the list followed by Tasmania and Northern Territory.
“The tour is going very well. I’m enjoying getting out and meeting with passionate small business operators right across the country and learning as much as I can from them,” she says.
“What I’m hearing most consistently is the need to improve cash flow, as well as customer and business confidence.
“Another issue that is being raised frequently is energy prices.
“The Turnbull Government needs to take urgent action to resolve the energy crisis facing Australia, and to stop playing politics with our economic security.
“I’m also hearing from small business about how the poor quality of their broadband is holding them back. The Turnbull Government’s rollout of its flawed NBN is too slow, and when it is delivered it simply isn’t fit for purpose for Australian small businesses. Small businesses are desperate to access new services and markets and to do that they need the appropriate digital infrastructure.”
Gallagher said the purpose of her tour was to hear directly from small businesses about their concerns and priorities.
“It’s also invaluable to hear the different perspectives of the conditions small businesses face in different regions,” she says.
“What’s impacting a small business in central Perth isn’t necessarily the same as in regional NSW. I want to make sure I have a holistic view of the issues facing the sector as I work with my Labor colleagues to develop policy that’ll help small businesses with what’s really important to them.”
