Jobs surface in $345m Garden Island upgrade

Job opportunities are now bobbing up on the $345m HMAS Stirling upgrade at Garden Island, now in the procurement phase after planning for the major Defence project began in 2010.

Managing contractor Doric Group has advertised for expressions of interest from “suitably qualified” sub-contractors interested in carrying out work valued up to $11 million.

But businesses will need to be nimble in this instance as the initial responses are due in by close of business tomorrow, Friday, May 12.

Doric said the tender involves ICT Head End, FIP and BMS works, with an estimated value of between $9.5m and $11m.

The works are due to begin in February, 2018, and finish in February, 2020, Doric said.

HMAS Stirling is the country’s largest Naval base and home to 2300 service personnel and a Submarine Escape Training Facility.

The redevelopment project is expected to generate about 300 jobs overall, including roles in roads, sewerage, power infrastructure and upgrades to maritime structures and bridges.

Completion of the project is expected in January, 2020.
