CCIWA’s esteemed legal practice, Business Law WA (BLWA), is celebrating a major milestone next month, with the firm marking 10 years since it opened its doors.
Launching in December 2014 with a focus on workplace relations, BLWA now comprises 12 lawyers covering both Employment Law and Commercial Law.
Since 2017, the firm has assisted 1024 clients on 3076 matters. This year it obtained a Quality Practice Standard (QPS) accreditation for the fifth consecutive year, joining a select group of 42 law firms in WA to secure the certification.
Legal issues have included representing businesses in the Fair Work Commission for unfair dismissals and general protections, workplace investigations, mediations, and strategic employment advice including the negotiations of enterprise bargaining agreements.
Since its addition to BLWA in 2022, Commercial Law has helped with business sales and purchases, leasing matters, drafting and negotiating complex contracts, and advising in relation to requests for tender and compliance matters.
“It has been very rewarding to see the firm grow over the last decade,” says BLWA Group Legal Director Ryan Martin.
“When I joined there were only three lawyers, and now we have 12, which is a great reflection of the impact we have had in assisting WA businesses with their employment and commercial law needs.”
BLWA ‘uniquely positioned’
Workplace Relations Legal Director Justin Lilleyman says BLWA is uniquely positioned as it exists within CCIWA and as such can contribute to policy discussions on both a Federal and State government level.
“Businesses are having to deal with complex regulatory requirements, compliance risks and the ongoing need to keep up to date with ever changing workplace laws,” he says.
“The firm plays a critical role in supporting businesses through these challenges by providing tailored advice, risk assessments, and representation in cases of disputes or compliance investigations.”
Cass Wright, Commercial Law Legal Director, says Commercial Law was an exciting addition to the legal services provided to businesses in WA.
“By providing Commercial Law services we are providing a one stop shop for businesses in WA,” she says.
“We have achieved great results for our clients and helped them to navigate complex legal issues, and ensure compliance, to enable our clients to focus on growing their business.
“We pride ourselves on providing practical legal advice. We take the time to get to know our clients and their business needs to design bespoke solutions and agreements to fit our clients’ needs and processes.”
