Call for contractors for Burrup Hub

Oil and gas giant Woodside is ramping up contractor engagement for the Burrup Hub with new industry events planned for the rest of the year.

Woodside Senior Vice President North West Shelf and Burrup Niall Myles told the WA Works Conference on June 28 that reliable LNG resources have a head start in the global race to supply lower carbon intensive fuel to meet the energy shortfall expected in the early 2020s, driven by demand from Asia.

It was therefore pushing on with bold plans to create an integrated LNG production centre – the Burrup Hub – on the Burrup Peninsula in the Pilbara.

“Our vision for Burrup Hub is the right time to supply the market and the right time for our contractors to start engaging with us on the opportunities that that presents,” he said.

Direct economic contribution of the projects would be about $40 billion of capital expenditure, he said.

“We’ve started the engagement with suppliers and contractors on the opportunities for us to work together.

“Our advice for contractors who are not engaged with us now, or are and want to do some additional work, is to work with us by maintaining an accurate profile on various business databases that are not only used by Woodside and all our major contractors, but all the other major resource companies in this sector.

“You profile needs to outline key strengths, competencies and experiences.”

He said the databases included ICN Gateway and the Aboriginal Business Directory WA, both of which are run by CCIWA.

A sold-out WA Works sundowner will be held at CCIWA’s Perth office on August 8 featuring Woodside project managers from Pluto Train 2 (Rob MacKinnon) and Scarborough (Morgan Harland), with major contractors for both projects also in the room.

More events about these projects are planned, to express interest in attending contact [email protected].
