Contractors sought for Metronet build

WA businesses are being asked to demonstrate their capabilities for the Metronet program of works through a State Government survey that went live this week.

The online survey will be open to the construction industry to ensure the Government has an understanding of the capability of the market to deliver Metronet projects.

Engineering and construction organisations can provide feedback on their capabilities, experience and critical success factors to design, procure and deliver major transport infrastructure projects.

It also provides new opportunities for businesses to get involved in Perth’s most ambitious program of rail projects.

Stage One will deliver about 72km of new passenger rail and up to 18 new stations.

The first stage includes:

  • completing the Forrestfield-Airport Link
  • extending the Joondalup Line to Yanchep
  • linking Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations
  • planning and building the new Morley-Ellenbrook Line
  • extending the Armadale Line to Byford
  • relocating Midland Station and extending the Midland Line to Bellevue
  • building a new station at Karnup on the Mandurah Line and
  • removing level crossings on the Armadale and Midland lines.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti says the McGowan Government is seeking to maximise local jobs in all its projects and has already held a railcar industry construction briefing.

CCIWA CEO Deidre Willmott says WA businesses are well placed to deliver the State Government’s flagship Metronet project.

“Ensuring WA businesses have access to government procurement throughout all parts of the supply chain is critical to helping businesses grow and create jobs, and for WA to retain our skilled workforce,” she says.

The survey closes on January 18, 2018.
