CCI congratulates Prime Minister-elect Scott Morrison MP

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (CCI) today congratulates Prime Minister-elect Scott Morrison MP.

The Western Australian business community has been the pillar of our country’s economic prosperity for decades, and with the right policy settings, will continue to be long into the future.

Governing is a privilege, not a right. The ongoing political instability in Canberra has caused angst among business and the community, so we are pleased leadership questions have been resolved swiftly so that industry can have confidence once again to invest, create new jobs and cement our international reputation.

As a frequent visitor to WA, and a regular speaker at CCI events, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has demonstrated that he understands the importance of WA businesses to the Australian economy.

As Treasurer, he engineered the GST reform deal in the national interest of every Australian, which CCI was proud to work closely with him on as part of the Productivity Commission inquiry process.

Fixing the GST is the most important issue to West Australians, second only to cost of living and most Australians believe that if it is in the national interest to change the GST distribution it should be changed. We encourage Prime Minister Morrison to confirm that the Government will honour its GST solution at the earliest opportunity.

Small and medium sized businesses have benefited from a reduction in company tax cuts and this week Scott Morrison indicated that a reduction in these taxes could be accelerated. We strongly encourage the Government to bring those tax cuts forward as they will foster greater business confidence, attract new investment and create additional WA jobs.

CCI looks forward to continuing to work closely with Scott Morrison as Prime Minister. With a Federal election impending, it is critical that all political parties commit to policies that support a thriving business community. Business underpins the prosperity of this nation.
