New direct flights between Perth and Newcastle will bring tens of thousands of East Coast tourists to Western Australia.
The new Qantas route, supported by the WA Government, will launch on September 8th with three non-stop flights a week, year-round.
CCIWA Chief Executive, Peter Cock says the direct flights into Perth Airport will help WA to tap into a growing tourism market.
“The New South Wales Hunter Valley has a growing population and a high propensity to travel so this is really a wonderful opportunity to bring more people into WA,” he said.
“The Hunter has a similar character to Western Australia, being resources-based economy. This creates a multitude of economic opportunities for business in both locations.”
“Additional direct flights into WA will also be a shot in the arm for our city’s tourism and hospitality businesses.”
Up to 23,400 passengers are expected to travel on the route each year.
“We welcome the efforts of the WA Government through Tourism WA and Perth Airport to secure more direct domestic flights into Perth,” Dr Cock said.
“Domestic visitors are a hugely important piece of WA’s tourism puzzle and the launch of the Perth Bears NRL team in 2027 will bring even more interstate travellers to this wonderful state.”
