COVID-19 restrictions to continue post lockdown

Perth’s CBD has been quiet in the wake of the lockdown, which was enacted after a security guard from a quarantine hotel tested positive to COVID-19.

Businesses can expect to face ongoing restrictions even if the lockdown is lifted, with the WA Premier saying his team is looking at what will happen next if the State records another day without local COVID-19 transmission.

Editor’s note: The WA Government announced a series of restrictions post-lockdown following the publication of this article.

Subject to no new cases, from 6pm, Friday 5 February the Perth and Peel region will enter into the post-lockdown transition period ending 12.01am, Sunday 14 February.

The post-lockdown transition restrictions for Perth and Peel region includes:

  • Wearing a mask when in public and at work. Some exclusions apply including during vigorous outdoor exercise and when eating or drinking whilst seated.
  • All businesses can reopen, excluding the Casino and nightclubs
  • 4 square metre capacity rule in place at hospitality, entertainment, fitness venues and events, with up to a maximum of 150 people excluding staff
  • Seated service only at hospitality venues such as hotels, restaurants and bars
  • Visits to aged care and disability care facilities restricted to compassionate grounds only
  • School can resume from Monday 8 February 2021. Masks are required to be worn by all school staff and secondary students.
  • Only essential travel is permitted in and out of the Perth and Peel regions to other parts of WA.

The above information is based on the Premier’s media release and may differ from the Directions issued under the Emergency Management Act. Our COVID-19 FAQs will continue to be updated as more information comes to light.

WA is on track to lift the five-day snap lockdown of its Perth, Peel and South West regions tomorrow evening at 6 pm if the States continues to report 0 local COVID-19 transmissions.

CCIWA has written to Mark McGowan seeking more clarity, and compensation, with some form of restrictions in the affected regions flagged for at least another week post lockdown.

Premier McGowan plans to meet with the State Disaster Council this afternoon to decide “what post lockdown life will look like”.

In the first half of the lockdown week, CCIWA answered hundreds of calls from Members, and its COVID-19 site has had several hundred downloads of info sheets, as businesses navigate the lockdown rules.
