Innovation, tech businesses get boost for US expansion

A new program has launched to support local innovation and technology businesses seeking to expand into the United States market.

A female scientist in a lab coat focuses on constructing a robot, showcasing innovation in technology.Applications are now open for the Global Growth Accelerator Program for Critical Tech, led by Invest and Trade WA, to help start-ups and scale-ups take the US leap.

“The US has enormous purchasing power and can be a catalyst for exponential growth for WA businesses,” says Michael Carter, Head of CCIWA’s International Trade Services.

“However, it’s a fiercely competitive and discerning market, which is why the Accelerator Program is ideal – it will equip businesses with an array of contacts, tools, knowledge and market strategies to help them crack the US.”

Who can participate and what’s involved

Applications are invited from companies in critical technologies, mining and/or energy tech, and other sectors with dual-use applications.

The program will run over three months, combining virtual and in-person components.

Participants will have the opportunity to network and engage with customers, industry leaders, investors and strategic partners to launch their US market expansion.

Timeline

  • Program kick-off: West Tech Fest, Perth, December 2024
  • US in-market visit: March 3-11, 2025, coinciding with South by Southwest (SXSW)
  • Program end date: Perth, April 2025

“We know we have a local innovation ecosystem that is fast being recognised internationally as a global leader in automation, robotics and remote operations,” says Innovation and Digital Economy Minister Stephen Dawson.

“Western Australia has an amazing critical technologies sector which is reflected in our local economy and this accelerator program will enable locally based companies to take the next step and be seen on the global stage.”
