Students from St John Boscos College in Piara Waters were hosted by CCIWA this year in a bid to give future generations insight into the work at a modern-day business chamber.
The students, who visited in May, were greeted and settled into the boardroom at the Perth CBD office before touring the floor to observe the different business units.
At International Trade Services, International Trade Documents Administrator Annabelle Merioles informed students about her role and explained free trade agreements.
She also explained how the international trade department can help businesses wishing to trade overseas.
Once back in the boardroom the students were given a presentation about CCIWA.
CCIWA Events Manager Matthew Flynn discussed his career journey and how he turned his passion for electronic music into a career.
This was followed by Membership Advisor Jasleen Saddal, who discussed her university experience studying a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and how she wished she had chosen a different pathway.
Jasleen discussed how she completed an aptitude test and found she would be perfect for sales.
Finally, CCIWA Chief Economist Aaron Morey discussed his very diverse government, policy and economic career.
Aaron said he hoped his work contributed to making Western Australian the best place to grow, settle and find work instead of young people leaving for overseas.
The students were very engaged and asked Aaron, “How do you manage all your commitments?”
Many of the students said they envisaged future careers in mining, while one said they wanted to be an electrician and another said they wanted to be a doctor. There was one student who was adamant about becoming an executive board member!
The students then played Occupation Bingo, where job roles and their descriptions were called out and students crossed off the jobs. In the end there were two students who tied, and each won a chocolate.
Upon leaving, one of the students said he would be putting in a job application to work at CCIWA as soon as possible.
