CCIWA President Nicki Ivory and Chief Executive, Peter Cock, have paid tribute to the organisation’s former President, Dr Penny Flett AO, who passed away last week aged 77.
Dr Flett was the first woman to be elected to the role in 2006, having served on CCIWA’s Health and Community Services Council from 1996.
A geriatric medical specialist, Dr Flett was also Chief Executive of the Brightwater Care Group for 20 years and was the first female doctor to serve in the RAAF.
She was named WA Australian of the Year in 2009 and named an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2014 for her work in the aged care and education sectors.
Ms Ivory said Dr Flett’s contribution to CCIWA was significant.
“Penny Flett was a trailblazer in many respects and dedicated her career to caring for some of our most vulnerable people,” she said.
“During her time at CCIWA, she was passionate about bringing commercial know-how to the not-for-profit sector and advancing our understanding of how the community care sector operates.”
Dr Flett was named Telstra Business Woman of the Year in 1998 and was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2003.
