Business and Industry welcome focus on fuel

CCIWA has welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the Western Australian Premier’s roundtable on fuel supply and prices.

The roundtable gave representatives from a range of industries the chance to provide direct feedback on the issues impacting their sector.

CCIWA Chief Economist, Dr Daniel Kiely, said the Government’s consultation with industry was extremely valuable.

“The Gulf conflict and the impact on fuel supply and prices is having an impact across the WA business community, and that impact flows on to the cost of other goods,” Dr Kiely said.

“It’s an issue that impacts businesses of every size, in every sector of the economy, as well as every household.

“While there are no simple solutions to this situation, it’s pleasing to see the Government is focused on working to reduce the impacts on the WA economy.”

“We are particularly concerned about the impact on our members in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors, as well as those operating in regional WA,” Dr Kiely said.

“This conflict has not only driven up the cost of the fuel they need to run equipment. It’s also driving up the costs of other inputs like fertiliser and petrochemicals due to shipping constraints through the Strait of Hormuz.”

“Businesses and households need Governments to provide certainty and clarity around fuel and supply chain security during this time,” Dr Kiely said.

CCIWA is pleased the WA Government is giving this issue its immediate and urgent attention and welcome the promise of ongoing dialogue with industry and business.
