Dr Daniel Kiely appointed Chief Economist at CCIWA

Western Australia’s largest and most representative business group, CCIWA, has named Dr Daniel Kiely to lead the organisation’s economic and policy advocacy.

Dr Kiely will take on the role of Chief Economist, overseeing CCIWA’s ambitious advocacy agenda.

Dr Kiely comes to CCIWA from the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre, where he was a Senior Research Fellow for a decade, leading the development of many of the organisation’s key economic reports.

An alumnus of CCIWA, Dr Kiely was previously part of the Chamber’s Economics and Policy Team, working as a Principal Economist and Policy Advisor for two years from 2014. He holds a PhD in Economics and had a career in academia as an economics lecturer in Perth and Ireland.

CCIWA Acting Chief Executive Matt Golds said Dr Kiely brings a depth of knowledge to the role and will be a strong advocate for WA businesses.

“We are so excited to have someone of Daniel’s calibre to lead our team of economists and policy experts at CCIWA,” he said.

“We have an ambitious agenda for 2026, and Daniel will lead the charge on issues like the GST, payroll tax, economic diversification, skills and the energy transition.

“Daniel will be a champion for Western Australia as a leading destination for business and investment. He’ll drive bold advocacy and insightful economic leadership to shape policy and create lasting opportunities for WA businesses and the broader community.”

Dr Kiely will take up the role in early February.
