Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will be equipped to:

  • Identify employee entitlements and their sources
  • Interpret awards, agreements, legislation and contracts
  • Understand the hierarchy of industrial instruments
  • Apply the National Employment Standards (NES) to payroll entitlements
  • Calculate wages including penalty rates and overtime
  • Accrue annual and sick leave correctly
  • Apply correct tax treatment to annual leave
  • Calculate Long Service Leave (LSL) and tax withheld on LSL lump sums
  • Apply tax treatment for LSL upon termination
  • Understand Payroll Tax and assess applicable exemptions
  • Recognise risks associated with salaried arrangements and federal case law implications
