Course Description

Business owners, managers, and human resource professionals are increasingly faced with how to deal with difficult behaviours, including allegations of bullying and sexual harassment. In this one-day course, participants will develop a practical understanding of the legal framework with examples of bullying and sexual harassment from case law. Participants will learn how to approach and conduct conversations to address inappropriate workplace behaviours.

Pre-requisites

Preferable prior attendance at our Managing the Poor Performer course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course participants will:

  • Recognise the legal framework and associated risks for employers in relation to workplace bullying and sexual harassment
  • Discuss potential personal liability for managers, supervisors, and HR professionals
  • Recognise the types of behaviour and conduct that can constitute workplace bullying and sexual harassment with examples from case law
  • Explain what is meant by ‘at work’ and what employers can do to manage common problem areas including:
    • social media
    • workplace ‘banter’ and jokes
    • workplace romances
    • work-related functions and activities
  • Outline the type of claims typically brought in relation to bullying and harassment including compensation available
  • Discuss different approaches to managing complaints of bullying and sexual harassment.
  • Prepare for and have difficult conversations about behaviour.
  • Discuss proactive approaches to promoting a positive workplace culture
