Government commits to Pilbara oil refinery feasibility study
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visits Perdaman's Pilbara project with Labor Party colleagues
A proposed large-scale oil refinery in Karratha has taken a step forward, with the Federal and WA Governments backing a $4 million pre-feasibility study into the project. To be developed by Perdaman, the refinery would be the first new large-scale fuel refinery built in Australia since the 1960s and is expected to support thousands of jobs during construction and operation. The project forms part of a broader fuel security strategy, aimed at strengthening Australia’s sovereign refining capability and reducing reliance on imported refined fuels.
