Preparing for WA’s reopening

By

WA's reopening has been delayed indefinitely, but mandates around vaccinations remain unchanged.

That means there are practical issues that your business is going to face once COVID-19 circulates in the community.

The State Government has outlined your responsibilities in areas such as checking proof of vaccination and mandatory vaccinations, but businesses not covered by existing public health orders need to make their own decisions on some of the big questions.

Will all visitors to your workplace need to be fully vaccinated? Are masks necessary if there isn't a public health order in place?

What if some, or even all, of your staff aren’t vaccinated because you’re not classified as either a Group 1 or Group 2 employer? What if there are more lockdowns, be they in the Perth metropolitan area or the regions?

The best time to prepare for the unknown is now, before the borders do open.

And the best way to prepare for the unknown is to have a plan at hand.

CCIWA is offering members a COVID-19 Safety Package that costs from just $550 (including GST). The package includes:

  • Expert safety and risk consultation and advice;
  • Assistance with completing a COVID Safety Plan that will satisfy an authorised inspector;
  • A COVID-19 Risk Assessment Register that includes identified hazards and suggested controls; and
  • A customised Incident Response Plan for your workplace.

CCIWA can also conduct COVID-19 Business Continuity Risk Assessments for both members and non-members — contact CCIWA’s Employee Relations Advice Centre on (08) 9365 7660 or email [email protected] for more information.

Part of your considerations should include whether you need to adopt a formal vaccination policy to protect either or both of your staff and your customers or visitors to your premises.

Up-to-date information on what you can and can't do can be found on the Government's COVID-19 website.

For further guidance, call CCIWA’s Employee Relations Advice Centre on (08) 9365 7660 or email [email protected].

How to check proof of vaccination

Checking for proof of vaccination will be a part of operations for most WA businesses. But what’s acceptable proof, and how do you spot a fake certificate?

Employee vaccine records — where you stand

As COVID-19 vaccination deadlines loom, WA employers need to make sure they take their record-keeping practices seriously.
