PRIS Act Collection Notice

Western Australia’s privacy landscape has changed. From 1 July 2026, key privacy obligations under the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) (PRIS Act) commenced.

Businesses that provide services to or on behalf of the State may be contracted service providers under the PRIS Act and may be required to comply with the Information Privacy Principles when handling Personal Information.

Business Law WA’s PRIS Act Collection Notice is designed to help organisations clearly explain, at the point of collection, how Personal Information is collected, used and disclosed.

The template is drafted for practical use in WA workplaces and commercial environments and can be customised to address:

  1. what Personal Information is collected and why;
  2. how Personal Information is collected, used and disclosed;
  3. whether collection is required or authorised by law;
  4. the consequences if Personal Information is not provided;
  5. how individuals can access or correct their Personal Information;
  6. how privacy complaints may be made and handled; and
  7. where individuals can access the organisation’s Privacy Policy and privacy contact details.

If your business may be subject to the PRIS Act as a contracted service provider, Business Law WA can assist with tailoring the Collection Notice to your operations, contracts and information-handling practices. Please consult our Commercial Legal team.
