ASA launches new Employer Portal

Employers now have 24/7 online access to information, services and support to manage their apprentices and trainees with the launch of Apprenticeship Support Australia WA’s new Employer Portal.

The ASA Employer Portal serves to make life easier for businesses, including greater visibility over apprenticeship and trainee trends and better access to those looking for work.

apprenticeships

The portal enables ASA clients to work towards resolving their own queries, find additional information, onboard employees, and download PDS documents.

Forms can be lodged seamlessly and are automatically assigned to ASA’s Mentoring, Employee Relations or Claims teams on lodgement.

The portal also features access to Data Dash, an interactive data visualisation tool that gives employers instant access to key industry data.

Users can interact with the dash and analyse variables independently or assess how they correlate with one another across six areas of interest, including total apprenticeships and trainees over time; key qualifications by industry; cancellations and completions; and regional breakdown.

A separate Jobs Board provides details of apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities in Western Australia.

Apprenticeships boom

Apprenticeship numbers have skyrocketed in WA, from about 16,000 in 2020 to around 30,000 in 2022, due to a tight labour market created during WA’s two-year border closure.

CCIWA Associate Director Industry Skills Lena Constantine said with 30,000 people expected to start an apprenticeship this year alone, the ASA Employer Portal was a valuable tool for businesses at a critical time.

“ASA’s Employer Portal makes clients’ lives easier by ensuring that we give them an easy way of aggregating and simplifying the breadth of information, services and support that is available to them,” she said.

Data shows the most popular apprenticeships by the end of 2021 were automotive, (4185), electrical (3765), metals and manufacturing (3582) and building and construction (3362).

Constantine said there was also an increase in opportunities in the Light Manufacturing and Community Services sectors.

Outside of Perth, most apprentices and trainees are working in the Goldfields-Esperance region and the Pilbara, which have seen a 40-50 per cent increase in the number of apprentices.
