Grants up to $15m for decarbonisation-focused projects

Projects focused on decarbonisation have been given a boost with grants of up to $15 million.

The State Government’s Lower Carbon Grants (LCG) Program – Gorgon Fund is offering grants between $5m and $15m, from a total investment pool of $33.6m.

The funding is targeted for large research and innovation activities across industries that significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions or test, demonstrate and deploy technologies that support lower carbon projects.

Grants are also open to innovators who can offer industry translatable solutions which have the potential to solve issues in current supply chains.

“These grants are designed to attract and support significant green tech projects to the State as well as help diversify and green our economy,” says Innovation and the Digital Economy Minister Stephen Dawson.

Grant applications close June 11.

The grant funding may comprise up to 50% of total project costs, including:

  • Capital costs of equipment used for carbon abatement or sequestration
  • Purchases of new equipment and technology
  • Essential non-equipment expenditure including design, professional services, transport, installation and commissioning, laboratory testing and field sampling
  • Project management and grant administration costs
  • Expenditure on capital/asset investment
  • Salaries/wages for new jobs created to undertake the project or activities for the period of the project
  • Expenditure incurred after the project start date and consistent with these guidelines

The LCG Program and the establishment of a GreenTech Hub are part of a four-year $40m funding agreement between the Government and the Chevron-operated Gorgon Project, which is funded by the Gorgon Joint Venture.

The GreenTech Hub will focus on accelerating green technologies and services in WA. The operator of the hub is expected to be announced shortly.
