Goldfields seeks interest in ‘golden’ future

The golden glow of the Goldfields is returning, with news of jobs in abundance and high hopes that workers and investors will be lured to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Jobs are expected to grow by 34 per cent by 2030 with an expected population boost of 30 per cent.

As part of the push to lure those people, the inaugural Growing Kalgoorlie-Boulder economic development conference is shaping up to be a wealth of information for prospective investors and residents.

Minister for Regional Development Alannah MacTiernan MLC will headline speakers at the conference – a joint initiative of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Speakers – including leaders in mining, resources and innovation – are expected to provide exclusive insights into announcements that could change the long-term economic landscape of the city.

“There will also be some exciting presentations on some of the new ground that is opening up future opportunities for people wanting to invest in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, both from a business and retail perspective, and a broader industry point of view,” says the city’s CEO John Walker.

Delegates are expected to hear from the likes of KCGM General Manager Cecile Thaxter, General Manager of BHP Nickel West John Malone, and CEO and Managing Director of Neometals Ltd Chris Reed.

Other confirmed speakers include:

  • Dr Ben Adair, CEO and Managing Director of CRC Ore
  • Dr Chris Vernon, Program Director Processing from CSIRO Mineral Resources
  • Peter Kerr, Executive Manager Growth from Western Power
  • Glenn Weir, CEO of CPC Engineering
  • and Jack Archer, CEO of the Regional Australia Institute.
