Act quickly on new manufacturing grants

WA manufacturing businesses have a small window of opportunity to apply for their share of $280 million in new funding for projects in priority areas.

CCIWA’s new Grant Finder service has all the information you need to know about the grants, which form Round 2 of the Translation and Integration streams of the Federal Government’s $1.5 billion Modern Manufacturing Initiative (MMI).

Applications for the grants close at 5:00pm AEDT (2:00pm AWST) on Friday January 14, 2022, meaning businesses have just one month — including the traditional Christmas/New Year shutdown period — to prepare their documentation.

The Federal Government is offering grants of between $1m and $20m, for up to 50 per cent of eligible project expenditure.

The matched funding is intended to help manufacturers to either translate their great ideas into commercial outcomes or break into new markets and distribution chains.

The MMI covers six National Manufacturing Priority Areas:

  • Space
  • Medical products
  • Resources technology and critical minerals processing
  • Food and beverage
  • Recycling and clean energy
  • Defence

Guidelines are available and applications are now open for the space, medical products, and resources technology and critical minerals processing streams.

For the three remaining industries, guidelines will be available and applications will open this Friday, December 17.

The new guidelines further clarify the objective of each stream, the key elements of a meritorious project, and how to address the updated criteria.

The MMI is investing $1.5b in large transformative projects to encourage private investment and build the scale, connections and capabilities of local manufacturers, allowing them to shift up the value chain and grow.
