Location data shows WA is on the move

Google mobility data shows WA has more people back in the office, and visiting shops, restaurants and cafes, than any other state in Australia.

But while WA-ers are out and about, they’re still shying away from public transport.

The Google data uses location tracking to reveal the change in visits to places before and after the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

CCIWA Chief Economist Aaron Morey says Western Australia has held up fairly well against other states and territories for three reasons: significant government support packages; pent-up demand; and the early reopening of the WA economy, compared to other states.
