App to fast-track WA travel

The WA Government and police have launched a new app to help people and businesses navigate the State’s emergency travel restrictions.

Businesses in the exempt category can now apply for approval to travel via the Good to Go ‘G2G PASS’.

The app generates a QR code which can be scanned at border and regional checkpoints. It also allows travellers to complete a manual check in as they pass an unmanned border.

Premier Mark McGowan says it will help streamline the travel exemptions process and fast-track movement between checkpoints.

“We’ve already had an overwhelming response over the weekend as part of a soft launch, with more than 8000 applications from industry,” he said.

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson says, until now, the process has largely been paper-based.

“Since the hard border restrictions and the internal Western Australian border restrictions have been brought into play there been over 285,000 people who have passed through or being refused at those checkpoints,” he said.

He says the app brings a great level of efficiency to the process. People can still use the existing paper-based process by providing the correct documentation at checkpoints.

Business with 20 or more employees can make bulk applications for travel exemptions.

How to apply

  • Visit www.wa.gov.au to view if you fall under an exempt category to travel to WA and within WA.
  • If you meet the exemptions, visit the G2G website and apply through an online form. Police assess your application, and aim to give you a response within 72 hours.
  • If approved, you can then download the app to generate a QR code which can be saved to your phone or printed out, to get scanned at the checkpoint. You can also provide your approved form at the checkpoint if you don’t want to use the app.
