Learning outcomes

This training course will assist Supervisors, HR and WHS Professionals to identify the legislative obligations of employers in relation to mental health issues experienced by employees, increase awareness of common mental health conditions and how they may present, and empower Supervisors, HR and WHS Professionals to be able to appropriately manage these issues and provide support.

Topics covered in this workshop include:

  • Prevalence of mental health conditions
  • Employer obligations under WHS legislation
  • Identifying and managing psychosocial risk
  • Controlling psychosocial hazards
  • Identifying the warning signs
  • The importance of early intervention
  • How to have an R U OK conversation
  • Employee relations risks and relevant legislation
  • Managing employees who raise or are suspected of having a mental health issue
  • Supporting return to work and successful recovery, including liaising with medical professionals

The workshop focuses on the use of case studies and group-based tasks to assist Supervisors, HR and WHS Professionals in practical day-to-day application of the content covered in the session.
